Poems in the Waiting Room Christmas Appeal 2019

for Poems in the Waiting Room

£475.00 + £67.50 Gift Aid = £542.50
Donated to Poems in the Waiting Room Christmas Appeal 2019’s £2000.00 Goal

Poems in the Waiting Room is a tiny charity that does a great thing. We publish short collections of poems for patients to read while waiting to see their family doctor. It's our way of saying 'Thank You' to the NHS.

Patients tell us how lovely it is to find something different to read, and doctors tell us how much it encourages them to receive our poetry. We send out poems as bundles of 20 printed cards to go in waiting rooms, for patients to read and to take them home with them. We send out four collections each year, to over 800 waiting rooms all over the U.K. - about 1 in 12 of all the NHS genera pratice waiting rooms.

If you can help us, just £25 this Christmas will ensure we can continue to support one more waiting rooms for another year.

If you would like to support us regularly, you might like to become a Friend of PitWR.

All funds raised will be passed to Poems in the Waiting Room irrespective of whether our appeal target is reached, not reached or exceeded. If funds are being raised for a specific purpose and, for whatever reason, this purpose is no longer valid, the funds will be transferred to the charity for general use.

The charity

Poems in the Waiting Room is about patients, doctors and poets. We publish short free collections of poems as cards for patients to read while waiting to see their doctor, and to take away with them. There is no charge to the patient or to the NHS. It's our way of saying 'thank you' to the NHS. We publish both well-known and new poetry, approved by a practicing psychotherapist to promote well-being. The pocket sized cards are distributed four times each year in bundles of twenty. Each card provides some seven or eight poems.

Every £25 we raise will help us to send our poetry cards to a NHS doctors waiting room for a year. If you like what we do, please support our work with a donation.

PLEASE NOTE: if you would like to become a Friend of Poems in the Waiting Room, you need to contact us to let us know you have made a donation, and give us your postal address. Friends receive a quarterly newsletter, a copy of each poetry card, and a free book of the poetry published in our cards.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
