This appeal is for the restoration of Steam Locomotive Small Prairie 4561 to run again on the West Somerset Railway.

This Locomotive (owned by the WSRA) is typical of the steam locomotives that would have run in the West Country and beyond between the 1920s and the mid 1960s. It's currently undergoing restoration at the charity's engineering works in Williton.

At the beginning of 2018 the total cost was estimated to be £220,000. At the end of June 2019, we have achieved almost half that in donations and pledges. Therefore the appeal on this page is launched with a target of £120,000. To keep up with progress on the loco please visit our webpage at https://www.wsra.org.uk/restoring4561/

All funds raised will be passed to West Somerset Railway Association irrespective of whether our appeal target is reached, not reached or exceeded. If funds are being raised for a specific purpose and, for whatever reason, this purpose is no longer valid, the funds will be transferred to the charity for general use.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
