Our Charity is proud to announce a fundraising campaign to update the ageing sensory equipment at Stour Connect (Sturminster Newton).
Adults with additional needs (learning/physical disabilities, autism or dementia) are often unable to access facilities providing much needed sensory integration and stimulation beyond the ages of 18 or 25 . This assumes their sensory needs are ‘cured’ at that age!
The Friends of Stour Connect believe there is an ongoing need throughout adulthood, that is not currently being met. We would also like to provide a service for those developing new conditions in later life, through accident or illness, who might benefit from a multi-sensory therapeutic space.
Some of the benefits of multi-sensory environments are :Improved co – ordination and motor developmentPromoting cognitive development by stimulating brain developmentEnabling participants to explore their environmentHeightened awareness and improved alertnessIncreased concentrationFocussed attentionDevelopment or reactivation of senses – hearing, sight, smell, touch and tasteThe re-provisioning of this sensory environment is a must, the current areas are outdated, and often not working. Our target is £28000.Please support our campaign in any way that you can. Many thanks - Friends of Stour Connect
