About George Bairstow Charitable Trust

The GBCT was created in memory of George Bairstow, who lived his life to help and support others but was tragically killed in a car accident in the early hours of 6 November 2013, on his return from a volunteer shift with St John Ambulance.

Selfless, generous and hands-on, George gave a great deal of his time to charitable organisations and had a positive impact on a wide range of communities – the GBCT intends to continue George’s good work and to ensure communities benefit from his legacy.

The Trust aims to empower local communities to make a difference, by supporting:

  • The provision of Emergency Aid
  • Volunteering among young people
  • The enhancement of skills among young people

The Trust’s programme will include events and activities to enable as many people as possible to become involved, whether as ‘doers’ or receivers.

In order to succeed in our mission, the Trust will work on a number of different projects.

  • To provide funding towards the installation of AEDs (Automatic External Defibrillators) in village communities, strengthening the chain of survival.
  • To help train communities in basic life support skills and the appropriate use of AEDs.
  • To financially support initiatives that encourage or involve volunteering for the under 30s across the UK.
  • To support those under 30 to improve their skills, fulfil their potential and develop their talents.

The Trust welcomes volunteers to help deliver these projects. If you are interested, please contact us.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
