'It's a wonderful charity that works to reduce loneliness and isolation among older folks.'</p><p><strong>Loneliness and old age</strong> </p><p>As people live longer so many find they lose their network of friends and families often become scattered across the nation and abroad. Loneliness and isolation is major detractor of health both physical ad mental. People feel better and do better if they have friends and social contact.</p><p><strong>Help us do more - Surrey Heath Age Concern</strong></p><p>Things are going really well, people like and enjoy what we do but despite doubling the number of people we help over the last two years we have become over subscribed. This winter we have gained a big waiting list for all the services we provide! We are not an expensive charity to run - we have 80 plus volunteers delivering the services but to be effective we have to have a core of professionals managing the service and to meet demand we need to move towards operating on 7 day basis.</p><p>Hence the need to generate more income.</p><p>Our befriending volunteers make 200 visits to older people every month. We need to double that to meet demand. </p><p>Tea and chatter monthly event takes out over 30 people for afternoon tea on Sundays, the loneliest day of the month! </p><p>Our rainbow Cafe - open 6 days a week has over 200 customers per week.</p><p>It's tea and memories afternoons are over subscribed.</p>
The Co-operative Bank are proud to be the main sponsorship partner of the Wonderful Organisation supporting charities to make a difference by ensuring 100% of donations go directly to doing good. Learn more about the Bank’s values and ethics.
We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.
We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.
We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
