180 acres managed by a voluntary Board of Trustees

Chislehurst Commons comprises 180 acres of woods, grassland, heathland and several ponds in and around Chislehurst in the London Borough of Bromley.

The Commons have been preserved for the benefit and enjoyment of the community under an Act of Parliament passed in 1888.

Under this law, a voluntary Board of Trustees has legal responsibility for managing and maintaining the Commons as a registered charity.

The land is not maintained by the Borough of Bromley or the National Trust and does not fall under the remit of The Chislehurst Society. Upkeep of the Commons costs £100k a year which must be raised through grants and charitable donations.

The charity employs two salaried Keepers who work full-time on maintaining the land. Local volunteers give up 2,000 hours a year to assist them with conservation work.

All donations are gratefully received.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
