The Cromwell Museum is home to the best collection of items relating to the life and times of Oliver Cromwell on public display anywhere in the world. The collection comprises over 800 items, including portraits, clothing, miniatures, arms and armour, historical documents written by or about Cromwell, and even one of his death masks!
The Museum is located in the former Huntingdon Grammar School building, which was where Oliver Cromwell was educated as a schoolboy. The building itself is all that remains of a medieval hospital, built to provide hospitality for travellers and pilgrims in the 11th century.
The Museum tells the story of Cromwell’s life, from his time at the school and his early years in Huntingdon to his military career and time as Lord Protector. Displays include many personal items and a very fine collection of paintings by the great artists of the period including Robert Walker, Sir Peter Lely, William Dobson and Samuel Cooper. Our displays look at more than simply Cromwell himself; they also examine his impact and legacy right through to our own times, and the controversies that surround him.
Visitors can see more through our programme of regular exhibitions and events throughout the year; we also offer tours and activities for groups and schools.
The Museum is operated by an independent charity, the Cromwell Museum Trust, which receives no state funding towards its work. We rely of the generosity of visitors, grant givers and donors to help support our work.
We are currently working towards refurbishing the Museum in the autumn/winter of 2019; to bring the Museum into the 21st century, safeguard our collections and bring these stories to life for many more visitors. So far we have raised over £160,000 towards this - can you help us do more?

The Co-operative Bank are proud to be the main sponsorship partner of the Wonderful Organisation supporting charities to make a difference by ensuring 100% of donations go directly to doing good. Learn more about the Bank’s values and ethics.
We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.
We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.
We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
