About The HoverAid Trust

HoverAid work with remote communities in Madagascar where hunger, disease and a lack of clean water affect the health of millions. HoverAid reach unreachable villages when Africa floods, providing relief organisations with access to those most in need.

This year we've already treated more than three thousand people living communities far away from roads. We've also cleaned wells and provided water purification kits, rice and seed to hundreds of families affected by the three cyclones this year.

We'd love to do more, and whilst it sounds glib, it's absolutely true, that we can only achieve what we do with you as part of the HoverAid family!

Five on Five Appeal

We have partnered with Griffon Hoverworks, the worldwide leader in hovercraft design and manufacture to provide aid, assistance and rescue services around the world. Our dream is to have hovercraft ready to deploy on every single continent! We'd like to start with five hovercraft on all five continents!

Millions of people in the world today live far from the reach of reliable support and assistance when disasters strike.

Madagascar is the poorest country in the world and has the dubious honour of being in the top ten countries most likely to be hit by cyclones each year. With many of the population engaged in subsistence farming and fishing, this puts isolated Malagasy communities in serious and increasing danger of being left without the resources necessary to survive, such as clean water, shelter and food. Living in remote communities, far away from conventional road systems, when floods come they are often cut off from all but the most determined. Planes cannot land, boats struggle in the alternating shallow and debris filled waters, whilst helicopters, even if available, are simply too expensive.

Hovercraft however are the perfect solution, able to travel over mud, sand, debris and crucially, very shallow water ways. HoverAid use hovercraft to reach people that others cannot, with food, medical clinics, education and hope. We are often the first, and sometimes the only organisation to arrive in the crucial period of time after flooding disasters strike, simply because other vehicles cannot get there.

However, our fleet of hovercraft are old and non standardised. Our work supporting these impoverished communities on four river systems in central and West Madagascar is getting increasingly difficult and limited funding is always an issue.

We are one of only two charities licensed to deliver medical clinics throughout Madagascar and with natural disasters increasing across the globe, bringing famine and disease, it has never been more important to reach those people living in isolation.

We are fundraising for a new 995ED hovercraft to bring safety, wellbeing and health to more lives than ever before.

The 995ED is the newest product released by British hovercraft manufacturer Griffon Hoverwork. This hovercraft will provide reliable operational capability by delivering just under 1 tonne to the most remote and exposed communities in the world. By adding a new hovercraft to the fleet we will be able to expand the crucial reach of our operations and save even more lives.

The 995ED can be operated at 30 knots over shallows, beaches, weeds and debris with 0.5m separating the hull from the surfaces below. This means it will be ideal both in floodwaters and the thick debris filled mud left after the waters recede. The 995ED has a large cabin, providing shelter from the intense environmental conditions as well as a secure place to store sensitive equipment and supplies. Its wide, outer side-bodies provide great flat surfaces to work on around the craft and also offer safe and easy passage to safety.

It uses twin azimuthing electric drive thrust modules for reduced noise and higher manoeuvrability, crucial for communication and wellbeing on board, whilst navigating the complex river systems and flood waters. Using two power modules rather than one, craft reliability is increased as in the unlikely event that one module fails, the other can be used to return the craft to safety.

By achieving our goal of bringing this hovercraft to those experiencing the devastating effects of climate, first hand, we will be able to bring lifesaving resources and a future filled with hope and opportunity.

We have partnered with Griffon Hoverworks, the worldwide leader in hovercraft design and manufacture to provide aid, assistance and rescue services around the world. Our dream is to have hovercraft ready to deploy on every single continent!

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
