Walthew House is a small independent charity in Stockport that supports local people who are Blind, Visually Impaired, Deaf, Hard of Hearing or who have Dual Sensory Loss. The organisation provides practical and emotional support through a variety of services and activities, from a visually impaired steel band to a not-for-profit equipment resource centre.
People who live with a sight or hearing loss can often be at greater risk of suffering from social isolation, where they feel unable to leave their homes and interact with the wider world. Walthew House recognise this and strive to create a safe and welcoming environment where people can feel comfortable communicating with others.
Based on Shaw Heath, Walthew House supports over 250 local people each week through a range of weekly services. These range from a chair-based exercise class and a tandem cycling group to a youth club and a visually impaired steel band. The charity also hosts a not-for-profit equipment resource centre, where people can access advice and demonstrate equipment that may aid their daily lives. The centre is the only one of its kind in Greater Manchester.

The Co-operative Bank are proud to be the main sponsorship partner of the Wonderful Organisation supporting charities to make a difference by ensuring 100% of donations go directly to doing good. Learn more about the Bank’s values and ethics.
We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.
We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.
We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
