WCCYM Sponsored Walk
On Friday 13th
September, Susie Thomson will be walking 24 miles between multiple villages west of Cambridge. This is not for pleasure or enjoyment – Susie is not an athlete. Having spent most of her school P.E. lessons trying to get out of any sort of exercise or sport, the idea of walking nearly the distance of a marathon in a single day would not be top of Susie’s to-do list. However, Susie has spent most of her working life, working with and for the benefit of young people. Susie is the team leader for a charity called WCCYM (West Cambridge Christian Youth Ministries) and is walking to raise money to continue the vital work WCCYM carries out with young people west of Cambridge.WCCYM is active in a number of churches in the area, as well as carrying out invaluable work with local schools mentoring and meeting with young people. Susie is walking to allow WCCYM to carry on caring for the young people of West Cambridge.Susie would love to raise £1000 to go towards salaries of youth workers to work directly with young people as well as going towards funding the longer-term future of WCCYM by allowing the team to spend time looking at sustainability and future funding possibilities.Susie has planned the route around all the villages represented by WCCYM, is currently breaking in some new walking boots and has planned who will join her on different sections of the walk ranging from friends and colleagues to her 1 year old son Sam who will need to drop by to be fed along the way.Having secured match funding up to £1000, every donation however big or small is crucial and invaluable to helping Susie meet her target.
