THE WEST HIGHLAND WAY FOR WILDLIFE !
British wildlife is being wiped out. Over 50% of our biodiversity has been destroyed since the 1970s. Some 44 million individual birds have been lost and even once common species such as swift, starling and house sparrow are in free fall. Intensive agriculture and habitat destruction are the main cause and the carnage is being allowed to continue. The controversial badger cull is being expanded, foxhunters continue hunting with dogs and the shooting fraternity keeps on killing protected birds of prey. The latter being most prevalent in North Yorkshire. Fortunately, North Yorkshire also has a wildlife charity that is dedicated to saving lives...
Founded in 2009, Whitby Wildlife Sanctuary https://www.whitbywildlife.co.uk provides a rescue, rehabilitation and release service for the North East of England. It operates 24/7, 365 days a year, caring for over 3,000 sick, injured and orphaned animals and birds. It is run by 70 volunteers and includes many people with special needs. For this all to continue and to care for an increasing number of animals, the charity needs donations to pay for day to day running costs (feed, bedding, vets bills etc) and ultimately relocate to larger premises. On September 10th, me and my faithful pooch Meg will set off on the West Highland Way from Loch Lomond to Ben Nevis. I will camp the entire 96-mile route and endeavour to climb Nevis on the last day. Thanks in advance for your support! ;-)
