Team GoingforGold’s story

An Unexpected Journey

This campaign will fundraise for two of my chosen charities.

The British Heart Foundation and Cotton Shed Theatre Company.

It will document my journey as I complete walks that will be made possible by the donations given, where I hope to raise awareness about wellbeing, fitness and mental health.

My first walk will be the 3 Peaks Challenge which I hope to complete in June 2019.

3 Peaks Challenge

The National 3 peaks challenge requires me to climb the 3 highest mountains of Scotland, England and Wales in 24 hours.

On the day, I will walk about 36km, climb over 3000m (and come down) and drive over 450 miles which I will complete as part of a team.

Reasons for Chosen Charities

The British Heart Foundation is close to my families heart, as we lost Grandad Alan in April 2018 to heart failure. He survived the operation to fit his pace-maker back in 1998 but in the last 5 years of his life his lungs began filling with fluid and he had tremendous difficulty breathing.

The help of new heart technology and doctor’s research allowed me to spend two weeks with him after I graduated where we wrote his memoirs and we went for trips into Newcastle to places of his childhood.

Those days will remain with me for the rest of my life and have become an inspiration for me to follow my dreams. Grandad loved hearing about how me and my siblings were progressing through school, and although he never went to university himself this remained close to his heart until he held my hand for the last time and went to sleep for the last time.

Cotton Shed Theatre Company

Cotton Shed encourages everyone, regardless of age, ability, or background to build their confidence and talent under the direction of professional artistic leaders. Every person is involved with acting, music, song and dance, whether they are able-bodied and full of confidence, less confident, or have a disability or learning difficulty.

Since I graduated in June 2017, I have been on a journey of my own which has eventually led to a diagnosis of ADHD. Being a member of Cotton Shed and given the opportunity to develop my artistic practise as a set dresser gave me projects to focus on as I went through a gruelling year and a half of mental health treatment.

To thank and promote Cotton Shed Theatre Co. I will donate 50% of my donations to this brilliant theatre company. The remaining 50% will be donated to The British Heart Foundation in memory of my Grandad.

Thank You for your kindness, love and support in advance.

Let’s raise some MONEy.

Lots of Love Yvie xxx

Cotton Shed Theatre Company

Cotton Shed Theatre Company is East Lancashires only inclusive theatre company.

Too many people are prevented from accessing areas of interest and certain organisations, as they need that little extra care, attention or support when it matters, or they just don't fit in because of perceived preferences. This exclusion can lead to isolation and hidden talents being unrealised.

We all have something to offer and through Cotton Shed Theatre Company, our inclusive values encourage everyone, regardless of age, ability, or background, to access theatre and become a valued member. Contributing to ideas, direction and themes, each individual is encouraged to build their confidence and talent under the direction of professional artistic leaders. Every person is involved with acting, music, song and dance, whether they are able bodied and full of confidence, less confident, or have a disability or learning difficulty.

At Cotton Shed, everyone is welcome.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
