Team Borneo Jungle Trek’s story
From 11 – 20 October 2019, a team of 18 fundraisers embarked on a challenging trek across Borneo through the rainforest to raise vital funds for Willen Hospice.
This was a tough challenge involving up to 8 hours of trekking per day and covering distances of up to 12km daily through difficult terrain and up the foothills of the Crocker mountain range, camping in remote villages with limited sanitation and surviving a multitude of dangerous animals such as large spiders and leeches. Conditions were challenging and hygiene was limited.
We were soaked by constant rain and walking in very humid conditions carrying up to 10 kilos of kit on our backs, dealing with mosquitos, leeches and bugs and clambering up muddly slopes with vines to hold on to, as well as scrabbling through rivers and across rope bridges.
