Torfaen and Blaenau Gwent’s story

On the 7th of September 2014 Daniel Jones took his own life. This sad loss of life is part of a wider, national picture which now sees 78% of deaths annually in men between the ages of 20-49 through suicide (13 suicides daily). This situation is echoed in current research by the Samaritans which show that nationally men are 4 times more likely to take their lives than women. In Torfaen and Blaenau Gwent Mind this situation is no different with similar figures as the national average. Often, as the Samaritans show, suicide can be a social issue due to social and economic disadvantage.

Monies raised from this ongoing fundraising project goes towards those affected by suicide, specifically men, and those affected by the ripple effect surrounding suicide such as family and children. Total Money raised by 31st July 2019 is £14,669.38

All funds raised will be passed to the charity irrespective of whether my target is reached, not reached or exceeded.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
