DHL UK & Ireland’s story
DHL encourages employees to support the local communities they work and live in. With so many children across the UK and Ireland affected by holiday hunger, we thought it would be a great opportunity to work with Spreading the Happiness by collecting food donations to provide primary school pupils and their families with ‘happiness hampers’ to support them through the school holidays.
Families whose children would normally receive free school meals and attend breakfast club, can struggle with the extra cost of feeding their offspring over the school breaks. With their child not being in full-time education and at home during the day, this can mean bigger bills for food and daily essentials – leading to the reality dubbed ‘holiday hunger’. Some parents even go without food themselves, to make sure they can afford the food their children need.
Colleagues can donate food items at any of our sites, but for those colleagues who would prefer to donate cash, you can get involved by donating here.
On average, one hamper for one family costs £15. All cash donations will be used by Spreading the Happiness to purchase hamper items on your behalf for the February, May or October half-term breaks.
