Sarah’s story

Dreamcatcher is a science fiction puzzlehunt running for a very limited time from 22nd-23rd June 2019 in Kentish Town. We are donating all proceeds from ticket sales to the awesome work that Ashanti Development do improving the lives of people in rural Ghana.

If you thought the puzzle was "fun", "moderately cool", or "peng", why not show your appreciation by donating a little extra to Ashanti! 100% of your donation will go towards providing clean water, sanitation, and education to rural villages in Ghana which have been hit by climate change.

All funds raised will be passed to the charity irrespective of whether my target is reached, not reached or exceeded.

Ashanti Development

Ashanti Development was set up at the request of London-based Ghanaians who wanted to improve the quality of life of people in their home villages. These had formerly been cocoa farmers, but from around the turn of the century climate change made it impossible to grow cocoa commercially. The people diversified into other crops – yams, cassava and plantain - but without much success and most of them were hungry most of the time.

Worse still, the streams shrank and became highly polluted so people tended to suffer from diarrhoea for five days in seven. To keep their families alive, many women travelled to work as prostitutes, bringing back HIV/Aids.

Ashanti Development has given clean water, sanitation and training in health and hygiene to 25,000 people. Among other work, it provides agricultural training to farmers, and gives business training and small loans for trading purposes to women.

Ashanti Development is a 100 per cent volunteers’ charity in the UK, and pays no wages or salaries, and very few expenses. However it has paid staff in Ghana to run its projects.

Registered Charity Number: 1133517.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
