Team Firestone 2019’s story
Last year Firestone raised almost £3000 (= 150 sight restoring operations)for Second Sight, a charity which cures blindness in Bihar, which has the worst reversible blindness problem in the world. Let's reach or even exceed this amount in 2019! Isn't it a great way to combine having a brilliant time in a lovely spot, celebrating music and friendship with making a tangible difference to people's lives in India's 'forgotten' state Bihar. Win-Win all around for everyone involved.
We have been working to restore sight to blind people for the past 18 years. And in the worst region of the world for cataract blindness-- the impoverished state of Bihar in India. We are a hands-on charity founded by an ophthalmologist and with clinicians frequently in the field. We work with amazingly efficient local ophthalmic teams - operating, and training doctors and paramedics and setting them up to continue without us in the future. Mindful of the dire poverty of most of the people of Bihar, and in spite of the huge increase in workload as a result of the success of our modus operandi, we remain a no salaries, no expenses, no office charity. We have just 2 more years to 'clear the waiting room' of blind patients thereby enabling the Indian teams to continue as self-sufficient, sustainable, community eye hospitals for Bihar, preventing curable blindness becoming a major problem again. Become part of this achievement by donating just £20 to restore sight to a blind person.
