Team Five Rivers’s story

Some of the Five Rivers Team will be walking an incredible 50km route over the Beacon Beacons in Wales. The walk will tale place on Saturday the 6th July and cover a circular route along the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal. An early start will see the team set out along the canal to the Talybont Forest followed by the Taf Fechan Forest. The route then exits the forests and we begin our ascent to Fan y Big, one of the four highest peaks in the Brecon Beacons. They will continue the ascent up to the summit of Pen y Fan – with stunning views across the rolling countryside and mountains of this National Park.

The team are challenging themselves in aid of The Rivers Trust - the umbrella body of the Rivers Trust Movement, working to protect, promote and enhance our freshwater ecosystems for both people and wildlife. Never have freshwater habitats been more at risk than they are today... Increasing threats from human pressures such as abstraction, pollution, urban development, intensive agriculture and human development. So help us engage with and carry out practical on the ground environmental improvement works alongside planners, landowners and local communities by supporting the work of The Rivers Trust.

All funds raised will be passed to the charity irrespective of whether my target is reached, not reached or exceeded.

The Rivers Trust

We are the umbrella body of the Rivers Trust movement, working to protect, promote and enhance our freshwater ecosystems for both people and wildlife.

With the support of over 60 member Trusts across the UK and Ireland, we work on the ground, in the heart of the community, to promote a sustainable future for our river environments.

Why support the Rivers Trust movement?

Our natural rivers and ecosystems are under pressure from abstraction, pollution, urban development, intensive agriculture and climate change.

Our high population density, coupled with the increasing frequency of droughts, extreme rainfall and flooding, presents a real threat to our wildlife and the ability to provide for our own needs.

We are working hard to actively engage with planners, landowners, farmers and local communities to carry out practical environmental projects on the ground.

From river runs to sponsored swims, with your input, we can have a greater impact on protecting our river environments. Your donations will go to support our work in promoting and enhancing healthy river environments across England, Wales, Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
