Team Henry & Jon Hike West Highland Way’s story

Dear friends and family,

Jon and myself have decided to set ourselves the immense physical challenge of taking on the West Highland Way in Scotland - an intense journey a 96 mile hike through the highlands from Glasgow to fort William, carrying all of our equipment and sleeping wild along the way, in just 72 hours. All in a bid to raise money and awareness for a great cause that is close to our hearts.

Our friend and former team mate, Tom Wilson, sadly passed away from a freak accident whilst at hockey training in 2015.

During Fresher’s Week at Nottingham Trent University, Tom signed up to be an organ donor. As a result, Tom’s selfless act established his legacy of not only raising awareness of organ donation, but also changing countless lives of others in need.

In his memory, Tom’s mother and sister, Lisa and Pippa, have since founded The Tom Wilson Memorial Foundation - dedicated to continuing to raise awareness of organ donation nationwide. Through our challenge, we hope to help spread awareness of the great work that The Tom Wilson Memorial Foundation is doing.

If you would like to donate towards this amazing charity we would truly appreciate anything that you can give.

All funds raised will be passed to the charity irrespective of whether my target is reached, not reached or exceeded.

Tom Wilson Memorial Fund

Tom 'Willow' Wilson, aged 22, died on the 9th of December 2015, after a training ground accident at his Hockey club Old Loughtonians. He suffered a traumatic subarachnoid brain haemorrhage after a blow to the head by a stick.

As the family considered organ donation they were informed he signed up as a fresher at Nottingham Trent University, allowing Tom to selflessly donate his organs and tissue to help save and transform the lives of up to 50 people. His teammates who performed CPR helped save Tom’s organs enabling him to give the ultimate gift of life.

The Tom Wilson Memorial Fund was set up to raise money for various donor organisations, concussion research and England Hockey related sporting charities. All money raised will go to the fund, any donation would be greatly appreciated.

The Fund has so far raised a staggering £30,000

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
