For reasons that I'm sure seemed sensible at the time, I decided to enter an Ironman triathlon. So, on July 7th in Southern Austria, I will attempt to swim 3.8k/2.4m, cycle 180k/112m, and then run a marathon (42.2k/26.2m) in a combined time of less than 12 hours.
I'm taking this opportunity to raise money for the wonderful charity Mind. Most of us know people who have suffered from mental illness, and it is a charity close to my heart - I struggled with mental health problems in my 20s and my youngest brother took his own life in 2012.
I have set a fundraising target of £5,650, which equates to £25 per kilometre of the Ironman. I would be thrilled for whatever support you can offer in helping me hit this target (if you're a UK taxpayer, you can increase the donation at no extra cost to yourself by ticking the gift aid box).
All money donated goes directly to Mind - wonderful.org charge no fees and I am paying the full costs of Ironman Austria.
As I’m covering all the costs, this criticism doesn’t apply to me:
This one might, though:
