On the 4th April I am taking part in the Ironman® 70.3 Triathlon in Oceanside California. This is a 1.2 mile (1.9km) ocean swim, followed by a 56 mile (90.1km) cycle mainly through the United States Marine Corp base at Camp Pendleton, rounded off with a 13.1 mile (21km) run along the side of the ocean.
I am doing this to raise money for the ITP Support Association as my youngest son has a rare blood disorder called Immune Thrombocytopenia which is a condition causing the body to destroy its own blood platelets which leads to the inability or restricted ability for the blood to clot. This means that any bleed can be serious and potentially life threatening.
