Team Jai Memorial Golf’s story

The golf tournament is held in memory of Jai Vaghela who lost his fight against brain tumour at the age of 19 in May 2007. He was diagnosed with brain tumour at the age of 2 and was under the care of Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Suresh Vaghela, Rohit Patel and Vikrant Vig have organised the event on Saturday 3rd August 2019.

Jai had passion for learning despite having complex conditions which did not inhibit his ability to participate in many different activities. He never allowed his condition to get the better of him and was always pushing others to strive for better and more. One of his teachers commented that “I felt very privileged to have been Jai’s Form Teacher and his cheerful personality, patience and kindness will stay with me forever. Most of all, I will always admire Jai for his uncomplaining nature and his sheer determination”. Jai spent enjoyed being student at Oak Lodge School, Finchley, London and remained a student there forever…

In our life time we will all experience the company of someone special and for friends and family Jai was special. Jai will always remain an inspiration to us all.

This year we are supporting "Hearts of Oak" charity. The charity advances the education of pupils attending both Oak Lodge School and Oak Bridge through the provision of facilities not provided by statutory authorities. The charity is very close to our hearts.

All funds raised will be passed to the charity irrespective of whether my target is reached, not reached or exceeded.

Hearts of Oak logo

Hearts of Oak – The Oak Lodge School Foundation Trust - is a registered charity (No. 1115755) that supports both Oak Lodge and Oak Bridge Schools, in the London Borough of Barnet.

Our aim is to advance the education of pupils attending Oak Lodge School and Oak Bridge through the provision of facilities, equipment and experiences not provided by statutory authorities.

Since its foundation, Hearts of Oak has raised over £350,000. From these funds we have funded projects, trips and specialist items that would not be possible given the constant pressure on all school's budgets; with no expenses, every single penny donated goes to brightening the lives of the pupils of both incredible schools

Additionally, we have funded the purchase of specialist equipment, from bicycles, sensory rooms, and even a mini-bus, and in January 2016, we opened a brand new retail outlet called The Lodge.

We consider the shop to be a unique extension of the curriculum offer at Oak Lodge School providing positive and meaningful learning opportunities for young people in a truly innovative classroom! Through this unique facility, the schools hope to be able to offer appropriate retail qualifications to significantly increase employability and improve outcomes for these students.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
