Jamie’s story

After success in my Wheathampstead 2K race last spring, I have decided yet again to try and push myself to the limit and climb The 02 (Millennium Dome) in late February, just after Heart Failure Awareness Week. Living with heart failure, it’s so important to make every day count, and every achievement means so much to me and my loved ones. I want to inspire the heart failure community to reach their goals where they can and to help raise awareness of the condition.

I was 27 when I was diagnosed with heart failure after complications of a valve repair procedure. Sadly, there are now few options available to me from my hard-working healthcare team. I used to travel the globe in my job as a Travel Consultant, but now my world has become much smaller.

Any donation would be very much appreciated and would go to this amazing charity who have helped me in more ways than you could imagine in the past few years. I’ve had so much support from them, so it’s my turn again to give something back.

By choosing the non-profit Wonderful.org, my chosen charity, The Pumping Marvellous Foundation will receive every penny raised, including 100% of gift aid!

All funds raised will be passed to the charity irrespective of whether my target is reached, not reached or exceeded.

The Pumping Marvellous Foundation

Heart Failure is your heart failing to pump as efficiently as it should to supply the body with oxygen/nutrients it needs. It’s not a heart attack/cardiac arrest.

  • Over 900,000 people live with heart failure in the UK
  • Heart failure affects all generations, not just the elderly
  • 30-40% of people die within 12 months of diagnosis
  • 5% of total NHS A&E admissions are heart failure related

Core activities/strategy of Pumping Marvellous are driven by heart failure patients, carers/families. We tackle patients’ needs and have superb interactions with our communities, running the largest global Facebook page dedicated to Heart Failure, so we fully understand the needs/challenges people face.

  • distribute patient information to NHS teams
  • deliver peer-to-peer support
  • develop interactive videos to help patients self-manage better
  • run UK-wide campaigns to build heart failure awareness
  • help fund local support groups to assist people with their challenges
  • challenge/support national initiatives to influence politicians/NHS policy-makers/NICE and local commissioners to improve access to the best care/treatments, ensuring availability across all postcodes
  • use patient feedback to provide insights to decision makers

As a small, cost-effective, Preston-based team, we are powerful and effective because patients help make decisions and get involved with every activity we do.

Registered Charity Number: 1151848.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
