Jeanne’s story

Hi Please donate generously.

I have signed up to do the Great North Swim at Windermere at the beginning of June this year. I work for Shropshire council within the Mental Health Social Work Team based in the North West.

I have considered how can I show my colleagues in the third sector how much we appreciate all they do for our local area, and how hard they all work.

I came up with the idea of doing this significant challenge of Swimming 5K at the Great North Swim which I need to aim to do within 2 hrs (a big challenge).

therefore I have decided to pool together the 4 charity's that support our local community and services so much.

Thank you all for any donation big or small that will be split between designs in minds, The Food Bank, Chalk and The Qube.

All funds raised will be passed to the charity irrespective of whether my target is reached, not reached or exceeded.

Oswestry and Borders Foodbank

Our foodbank is a project started in 2011 by christians from local churches , working together towards stopping hunger in our local area.

Initially we were operating in the Kingswell Centre and started giving out food at the end of November 2011. In 2012 we moved to our current premises (56 Beatrice Street) and started operating there from the beginning of April 2012.

Then in May 2013 a second distribution centre was set up in Ellesmere where the Methodist Church have kindly allowed us to operate. Further centres were opened in Weston Rhyn and St Martins, but these two centres have now closed due to a lack of people using them.

Our desire is to ensure that transport problems in our rural area are not a barrier preventing people from accessing the foodbank.

Registered Charity Number: 1143519.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
