Malawi has one of the fastest growing populations in Africa, with over 50% of the population being under the age of 15.
Many of the children who live there do not have a school within reach of their homes and are missing out on the right to be educated.
Mission Direct has partnered with Starfish Malawi, who share the same core values and believe that every child should have access to education. People in Malawi are caught in a poverty trap and education is one route to help them escape this cycle.
In a mountainous region of Malawi, Moyo village, near to Salima and Lake Malawi, there is a small community of people who desperately want the young generation to have the privilege of education. The children living there have an 8 mile round trip/walk to school each day which has classes of up to 100 - consequently many do not attend. Following on from the amazing work that has already begun last year where a two classroom block and toilets were built, I am volunteering to help continue to build the school, including teacher accommodation and another new classroom block at the end of July through to the beginning of August for two weeks. It is vital we ensure that every child in Moyo village and surrounding areas have a basic education and the chance of a brighter future.
The money raised will help pay for:
• Flights to/from London
• Entry visa
• Internal travel
• Medical insurance
• Food and bottled water
• A trip to the Liwonde National Park with overnight safari at the end of the two weeks.
Any extra money I raise will be given to the charity to help pay for the building materials, local labour, equipment, paint etc.
