David’s story

After a sad end to his 2017 road cycling exploits, DR has slowly built up enough stamina and confidence to tackle another road race.

OK, so most of his training has been in the garage on a turbo trainer, which has raised the question "Why does Daddy spend so much time in the garage on his bike going nowhere when he could be with us?". [There is no right answer to this BTW, other than "You'll understand if you ever have kids..."].

And I suspect that a large part of his motivation to get back on his bike was probably the draw of another long weekend in France sans famille. No, I'm not buying the "I thought we could all go for a long weekend in France (during the school term) and I could cycle on one of the days ..."

So, on the topic of me being abandoned for yet another cycling weekend, this year I get to nominate the cause, Didcot TRAIN. It is a charity very dear to my heart not least because I have recently become its Treasurer. The bad news is that as a very small local charity, it is very reliant on local government funding (TRAIN's main grant has been reduced by 7.6% this year). The good news is that pretty much every penny you donate will go to delivering youth work.

So, please be generous.

Nicole AKA The Cycling Widow

All funds raised will be passed to the charity irrespective of whether my target is reached, not reached or exceeded.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
