Team NCS’s story

We are NCS (National Citizenship Service) youth group based in the Poole area. As part of our social action project we are going to complete a sponsored litter pick of the Holes Bay area of Poole in aid of the Ed Kent Trust. We will be doing this between the dates of the 29th of July and the 1st of August 2019. We feel that it is important to protect the environment and clear pollution of our local area while supporting local charities.

All funds raised will be passed to the charity irrespective of whether my target is reached, not reached or exceeded.

The Ed Kent Charitable Trust

The Ed Kent Charitable Trust was formed in February 2017 in memory of Edward Kent, who died suddenly as a result of an asthma attack, aged 13 in November 2015. Ed was a keen cricketer and drummer, so the charity supports young people under 18 years old and living in Dorset, to further their sporting or musical ambitions. The trustees can fund any sport or musical activity, but with a particular focus on cricket and drumming. Applicants must show that they are already committed to the activity and that either the expense of continuing has increased as a result of progressing to the next level, or maintaining their current level of activity has been threatened as a result of a change in family circumstances.

In its first year, the trust focussed on fundraising alone but, since February 2018, has funded twenty-one young people with grants between £96 and £1,000, totalling over £8,000 in all.

As and when funds allow, the trust will also look to support organisations with projects that will specifically improve facilities for sport or music to the benefit of young people in Dorset.

Further details are available on the trust's website.

Registered Charity Number: 1174093.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
