Chris’s story

This week our merry little team head off for a thankfully not too hot, not too cold, not too windy and not to wet Paris for a wonderful summer holiday.

Sadly, upon arriving in Paris we need to cycle to Brest. And then back again to Paris. Without really stopping. And probably without really sleeping (although I have tried before to sleep whilst riding the bike, it didn't end well).

This is the 19th edition of Paris-Brest-Paris - a 1,200km ride held once every four years generally considered to be the pinnacle of ultra endurance riding. Some 6,000 riders will be lining up to take on this challenge. For anyone questioning why this is fun, please google "type 2 fun".....

Much type 2 fun has been had already in training for this event - some 10,000km having being clocked up this year in freezing wet January (and February, March, April....) and a baking hot July. It really is fun. Trust me.

My ride starts at 5:30pm on Sunday, the time limit for the ride is 90 hours (including all stops) thus I must be back in Paris by 11:30am on Thursday.

More information on the challenge is here:

And you may follow my sloth like progress here:

Please dig deep and support this wonderful cause.

All funds raised will be passed to the charity irrespective of whether my target is reached, not reached or exceeded.

Help For Children UK

Help For Children (formerly Hedge Funds Care) UK was founded in 2006 to expand upon the HFC global mission and help the most vulnerable and at-risk children identified by child welfare organizations in the UK.

A global foundation, HFC provides grants to the most effective and efficient child abuse prevention and treatment interventions in seven countries, making the world a safer place for children.

Since 1998, HFC UK has worked to prevent and treat child abuse.

The challenge is to cycle the breadth of the UK from Morecambe to Bridlington over 2 days. A total of 270km and 2,500m of climbing.

The ride will predominantly follow the renowned Way of the Roses coast to coast cycle route. This highly popular journey passes through the historic cities of York and Lancaster, and lesser known gems such as Settle, Pateley Bridge and Ripon.

Given the distance and climbing involved this is not a challenge to be undertaken lightly, but the stunning scenery and satisfaction of completing the journey on behalf of this very worthwhile cause will more than make up for the hard work!

Registered Charity Number: 1116081.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
