Racheal’s story

Hi! I am one of the founding Directors of The T.E.A Project (Training, Empowerment & Awareness). My career has been dedicated to improving life chances and promoting rights for vulnerable children and young people.

“Travelling to Mozambique as a young graduate inspired me to dedicate my life to helping others less privileged than myself.

I can't ask people to do what i'm not prepared to do myself; so here i am. Taking on a personal challenge i have dreamed of since i was a child.......

On the 6th October 2019 i will be running in the LSR Colombo Marathon https://worldsmarathons.com/marathon/lsrcolombo-marathon. If you can spare something to help me on my way i would be very garteful....''

Sri Lanka, well known as the “Pearl of the Indian Ocean", is fast developing in to an ideal holiday destination. Its tropical weather, white sandy beaches, and warm waters of the Indian Ocean, picturesque landscapes all contribute in making it one of the finest destinations in Asia.

However, children around the island desperately need support to fully realise their rights and unlock their individual potential. Extreme poverty continues to exist, particularly in the North, East, rural tea plantation communities and urban areas.

Vulnerable communities face the threat of infant and under-five mortality, malnutrition and unequal access to preventative and curative health services. Violence, abuse and exploitation still disturb communities, institutions and homes because poor awareness coupled with a scarcity of coordinated, well-resourced and readily-available child protection services make it hard for children to go about their lives free from fear, abuse or discrimination.

Too many children are leaving the education system without the skills or resilience to prepare them for life and the mind-set needed to strive in today’s competitive society.

To help realise the project's vision to empower vulnerable children from poverty The T.EA. Project is developing Sri Lanka’s first dedicated children’s empowerment centre.

All donations gifted to my marathon challenge will help fund development of our Children Empowerment Centre. For more info please visit theteaproject.org #Run4TEA

Thank you.

The T.E.A Project

The TEA Project works to empower Sri Lankan children from poverty.

We provide training, support and guidance to schools, orphanages and grass roots organisations; working directly with marginalised, vulnerable children and young people from poor communities.

The project helps give young people a voice. A voice which develops ambition, skills, knowledge and opportunities for underprivileged children. Unlocking a child’s hidden potential.

Children need to feel valued as important individuals with active rights; principles that will help guide their future's.

Every child should grow respecting diversity and experience how helping others is a basic human right.

We believe passionately that developing skills, aspirations and confidence in young people is key to securing a positive and sustainable future for the next generation.

The TEA Project is based in Kandy, within the Central Highland Province. Like the unique Kandyan weather the ethnic and religious context is as strong and diverse with Sinhalese, Tamil, Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim and Christian communities sharing the close proximity of the city. We support children from the poorest urban and rural areas throughout Sri Lanka where education and lives have been disrupted by poor economics, war, poverty, abuse and natural disaster.

The TEA Project donates its services nationally to assist organisations who give support to thousands of vulnerable children and families. Our tailor-made training is what makes The TEA Project unique; made to meet any learning objectives.

Registered Charity Number: 1163485.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
