Team Nettleton’s story
This October we (Rob and Jan) will be undertaking a 5-day trek through South Africa’s highest mountain range, the Drakensberg - the Dragon’s Mountains. It will set some challenges beyond our experience of hill walking or other treks. For starters, there’s the 30 metre steel ladder to ascend the rock escarpment! Then there’s the camping and (ahem) toilet facilities; then the weather – late winter snows or early summer thunderstorms are possible, although we hope to dodge between them.
The rewards should be the spectacle of a high mountain amphitheatre of wilderness, topped by Cathedral Peak, at over 3000 metres.
However, the trip won’t be complete with the trek. We’re visiting South Africa to support an organisation close to our hearts called NewDay United. This is what NewDay United says:
We are motivated to bring hope, help and healing to the people of Africa by the words of Jesus:
‘I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.’ John 10:10.
In the following 10 days we will be seeing how this happens. We’ll share with you some of our experiences of the trek along with our encounters in the Cape Town area of some amazing people and projects that are making this a reality in situations far more challenging than a few days of hiking.
We hope that you will partner with us and NewDay United by sponsoring our trek. All donations will be to NewDay United.
