Ruth’s story

On Sunday 28 April 2019, I will be taking on the opportunity of a lifetime and joining thousands of runners in the Virgin London Marathon! As a newcomer to running, this marathon is a huge one-off challenge for me, but nothing compared to the immense challenges many young people and their families face every day.

After many years of working in education, both in the UK and overseas, and having witnessed the desperate lives some children lead, I am keen to use my run to support the award-winning charity, Chance for Childhood. A key priority for this charity is to help some of the world’s most vulnerable and ‘hard to reach’ children access quality education in the belief that this is the best way to help them build a better future.

PLEASE support me in fund-raising for Chance for Childhood knowing that all the running I do around the quiet roads of Cumbria (often in the rain...), and then on marathon day in busy London (hopefully in the dry...) will help to make a real difference.

Genuinely, it doesn’t matter how small the donation, all amounts will be gratefully received - and every penny will go to Chance for Childhood.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Ruth

Chance For Childhood

Chance for Childhood is an award-winning charity working in Africa to support the most vulnerable children, such as street children, disabled children, children affected by conflict and kids behind bars.

These children are often invisible members of their communities, unable to go to school, excluded from society and living in abject poverty. They are sadly forced to grow up much too quickly…

What makes us special?

We work with visionary community leaders who best understand their local context. This enables us to focus on ‘hard to reach’ children, both in terms of their complex needs (e.g. street children with learning difficulties) and location (e.g. Accra’s most violent neighbourhood or rural Rwanda).

Our vision is of a world where no child is forgotten!

Registered Charity Number: 1013587.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
