Friends of Stour Connect’s story

The Hydrotherapy Pool based at Stour Connect in Sturminster Newton and owned by Dorset County Council shut its doors in May 2018. The Pool had been delivering an invaluable and unique service to over 40 students from Yewstock (SEN) School and a further 30 members of the local community.

Thanks to your support, the Friends of Stour Connect was able to work with Dorset County Council to secure the funding needed to repair and reopen the pool.

The pool is being run by social enterprise Neptune and is used by Yewstock School as well as being open to the wider community.

If you would like to use the pool please visit

Thank you.

All funds raised will be passed to the charity irrespective of whether my target is reached, not reached or exceeded.

Friends of Stour Connect

Friends of Stour Connect is a charitable organisation dedicated to improving facilities and access at the Stour Connect Day Centre in Sturminster Newton. The Charity has been established to target rural and social isolation affecting the elderly, the physically disabled and those with learning difficulties.  With the dedication of our volunteers and partners, we strive to improve the lives of those who need help within our community. Through our fundraising and volunteering we aim to assist in the provision of equipment, facilities, activities and services over and above those provided by statutory services to help our clients engage in rewarding activities in a supportive environment. Inclusivity is at the core of what we do and we set out to assist all those in  Sturminster Newton, Gillingham, Shaftesbury, Sherborne and Blandford areas. If you are interested in our services or volunteering, contact us to see what you can do to bring about positive change.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
