Rema UK

One of the world's poorest countries located in the heart of Africa, badly affected by a terrible ethnic conflict. Many Burundians lived in exile for many years having fled as refugees to neighbouring countries in East Africa.

Rema Burundi was formed by small group of Burundians in exile, people with limited resources but unlimited hearts. They set up an organisation to look after their fellow countrymen and women who were suffering in refugee camps, and have continued to support many people as they return to their homeland and integrate back into Burundi life.

Rema Burundi projects include:

  • A rural health clinic
  • Skills and employment - helping people start micro-businesses
  • Assist returnees with claims to their historic land ownership
  • Training and teaching

Rema UK provides support for Rema Burundi and co-ordinates publicity and funding.

Rema UK is registered charity number 1118650.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
