The Sinking Chancel for St Matthew's Church, Blackmoor & Whitehill

£100.00 + £13.75 Gift Aid = £113.75
Donated to Alice’s £80000.00 Goal

Alice’s story

Over a number of years it has become increasingly evident that the floor at the top end of the church is gradually sinking, and it now lies at least 15cm below the original position. We have been advised that the sinking is accelerating, and in time this could lead to structural problems with the church building.

Remedial work started in January 2020 and is likely to cost more than £160,000. A program of local fundraising has already started, but will only cover a fraction of the cost; we have some savings which will be used, and we are applying for grants, but there will still be a shortfall.

We hope with your help that the gap will be bridged. Thank you.

All funds raised will be passed to the charity irrespective of whether my target is reached, not reached or exceeded.

St Matthew's Church, Blackmoor & Whitehill

St Matthew's Church, in the Parish of Blackmoor and Whitehill, was designed by renowned Victorian Architect Alfred Waterhouse, who, among other things also designed the Natural History Museum. It was built in 1869 by the Earl of Selborne, Sir Roundell Palmer, for a cost of £10,749!

St Matthew's has served not just the people of Blackmoor, but those in nearby Whitehill, Bordon and beyond for generations. It is a holy place, not just a building, but a place where people of all ages and backgrounds come to worship, or just enjoy the peace.

To keep the church open and running for future generations, we need your help. Please see our fundraising pages and support us if you are able to. Thank you.

Registered Charity Number: 1171865.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
