Team The Gibson Gallopers do the Great North Run’s story

AWESOME big brother Stan and little sister Ash are running the Great North Run to raise money for the AMAZING charity, COCO!

While Stan is a fitness extraordinaire regularly running 15 miles, it's going to be a personal challenge for Ash to catch up! Lucky for her she has such a supportive trainer, which started when they were kids.

Together they can't wait to don the iconic orange TEAM COCO vests and run for #brighterfuturesacrosstheglobe!

We both grew up in Southern Africa and are so inspired by the work that COCO do to create long term economic improvement and education programmes, which are community led and make a real different in the lives of thousands of people!

In 2018, their work helped to directly impact the lives of 19,400 people.

All funds raised will be passed to the charity irrespective of whether my target is reached, not reached or exceeded.

COCO (Comrades of Children Overseas) is an international children’s charity, based in Newcastle upon Tyne. We believe that education provides the best possible chance of breaking the cycle of poverty. COCO works with communities in remote regions of East Africa to provide sustainable sources of quality education through our Schools for Life programme.

COCO was founded by Steve Cram CBE and British Army Major Jim Panton in 2000. Since then, the charity has raised over £4 million to fund small, sustainable, community led initiatives. COCO and its partners have now undertaken 60 transformational projects in 16 countries, positively impacting the lives of over 200,000 people.

Graduates from our partner school, Hoja Secondary in Tanzania, have achieved the best results in their region for five consecutive years and the school is now able to cover its own running costs thanks to income generation schemes. COCO is working with 14 other communities to replicate this success. In addition, to enable parents to cover the cost of their children’s education, COCO has distributed over 6,000 small loans and provided sustainable agriculture training to several communities, helping farmers to increase their annual income by up to 284%.

Registered Charity Number: SC030428.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
