Rachael’s story

I'm Rachael and I'm a Facilitator for The HorseCourse based at Centred HorsePlay in Cirencester.

This year I am running a number of races with my wonderful friend Charlotte, two beautiful doggies Dash & Treacle and our Unicorn mascot to raise money to enable us to fund more courses for vulnerable young people at Centred HorsePlay.

Having never run more than 10km and usually found wandering the countryside on the back of a horse rather than on foot, my goals are to have fun and enjoy the process, take in the scenery and raise as much money as I can! I intend to keep you entertained throughout the training process and keep you updated with photos and mini blogs here and via my facebook page.

Our race dates are:

28/9/19 - North York Moors Half Marathon

19/10/19 - Suffolk Marathon

09/11/19 - Gower Half Marathon

22/02/20 - Northumberland Half Marathon

Please support us in any way you can, whether that's in the form of a donation or just sharing the fundraising page to help raise awareness.

All funds raised will be passed to the charity irrespective of whether my target is reached, not reached or exceeded.

Centred Horseplay

Centred Horseplay is an independent charity based near Cirencester, we help troubled people of all ages 'when talking isn't working' and we are the approved Gloucestershire Hub for world renowned Dorset based charity TheHorseCourse whose work is leading the equine-assisted field in terms of outcome evidence.

We work with horses using an innovative and well-evidenced programme - multiple universities have done studies of our work. Participants are referred by social services, NHS mental health, schools, offender services and other specialist agencies. People typically come to us with 5 or more problems including (but not exclusively): not attending school, relationship difficulties, offending, drug & alcohol misuse, eating disorders, mental health problems, living in care or leaving care, domestic violence, ADHD, ASD, self-harm, bullying, aggression, anger, being bullied. Participants have an amazing week-long experience with high level horses, training as 'horse whisperers' to learn how to be truly calm, focused and clear in their communication. We use an action based learning process and the magic of horses to get people to engage, we are then able to teach them to become confident and effective learners in the horsemanship context. They learn first with a horse, then one another how to read others and take care of their needs. This empathy in action creates more positive relationships with friends, families and the professionals who are trying to help and support them.

What we do works, we know that 8 out 10 people we work with WILL do better in school and in relationships, no one should be considered beyond reach just because they don’t want to talk.

Registered Charity Number: 1167226.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
