Team UK Hydrographic Office ’s story

I (Tom Rigden) As part of the UK Hydrographic Office Team will be cycling to raise funds for Mind in Somerset on July 8th 2019. Team members will be cycling along different routes, appropriate to their ability. The routes are;

  • 13 miles (Bridgwater to Taunton)
  • 28 miles (Yeovil to Taunton)
  • 56 miles (Short tour of Somerset)
  • 118 miles (Full tour of Somerset)

I plan to ride the 118 mile route (Full tour of Somerset)

The UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO) employs about 750 staff at its Taunton headquarters, collecting and supplying hydrographic and marine geospatial data with a primary aim of protecting life at sea by enabling safe navigation. Each autumn the staff select a charity that is then supported with a series of fundraising events throughout the following year.

All funds raised will be passed to the charity irrespective of whether my target is reached, not reached or exceeded.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
