Team Walk the Walk’s story

Joan and Jean are joining the children of St Peter and Paul's Junior School in St Helens on a sponsored walk to raise money to buy mosquito nets for the children of Uphill Junior School in rural Western Uganda. Sleeping under a mosquito net has been shown to reduce the incidence of potentially life-threatening malaria infection. A simple remedy that costs only £5 can save a life! Can you help Joan, Jean and all the pupils who will be walking the walk to stop malaria on 30th September? Thank you so much from everyone involved in the Uphill school support project - together we are helping to change lives!

All funds raised will be passed to the charity irrespective of whether my target is reached, not reached or exceeded.

The Uphill Trust

The Uphill Trust was set up by three friends in 2015 to support Uphill Junior School, a privately owned primary school and kindergarten in rural western Uganda.

Uphill Junior School was founded in 2011 by a local teacher to provide education for children who, due to poverty or gender, were unable to attend school. The school actively promotes the education of girls, as well as advocating gender equality for the rural children of Uganda. It also provides free or subsidised places to orphans and children from single parent families.

The Uphill Trust supports the development of the school by funding the teachers, supporting some of the poorest children, constructing permanent school buildings and promoting clean water provision, good sanitation and health awareness programmes.

We are a zero overheads charity - the trustees donate their time for all administration and fundraising activities so that all the money raised from donors can be used to support projects at the school. We know from our work at Uphill that a little of what we have in our lives goes a very long way in rural Uganda. Together we can help to change lives through education - in the words of the school motto 'Education is Power'!

Registered Charity Number: SC045385.

What makes us wonderful?

We recognise the selfless commitment made by fundraisers who train for months to run marathons, face their fears by jumping out of aeroplanes or open their homes to the community for charity bakes and coffee mornings. We believe the charities they support should receive EVERY PENNY from their fundraising efforts.

We also believe that Gift Aid (a scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers) should be directed IN FULL to the charities. This is why the Wonderful Organisation does not generate profit (or even cover costs) by deducting money from fundraisers' sponsors or Gift Aid contributions.

We are a non-profit organisation funded entirely by like-minded, philanthropic businesses. That's what makes us wonderful!
