The children of Unguja Ukuu, a rural village in Zanzibar, are the focus of our project. Although the native language is Swahili, most subjects are taught in English, even though the teachers barely speak English. Classes are over-crowded (60+) and have no resources. Lessons consist of the teachers writing information on blackboards for students to copy and rote learning.
Zanzibar Schools Project works with the local community to improve the life chances of young people in the village. After 3 years our students are going into further education and leadership roles in Zanzibar. Explore the website www.zanzibarsp.ninja to find out more about specific projects. We welcome volunteers and donations!
